The Virus That Changed Everything

Posted: 04/01/2020 10:46am

COVID-19 has turned my world upside down. One of the biggest changes has been classed moved to online. I signed up for in-class courses because I am an auditory learner with a terrible memory.

I need constant reminders that I have homework and exams coming up.

The next thing that this virus has impacted was the Alpha Phi Alpha pageant I was a part of on campus.

We spent so much time and money getting ready for April 5thand it never happened. However, me and my pageant sisters and the alpha brothers still stay in touch and are very close which is a light in this dark space right now.

My family lives in Texas and during this time all I want to do is see them, however this virus has kept me from being able to travel, which is understandable but hurts my heart.

I also wouldn’t want to expose them to anything I could have possibly been exposed to.

Although we are supposed to be social distancing, my job is still open because it is considered to be an essential store.

I have rent and other bills to pay so I have to go to work and can’t file for unemployment until the store closes down.

The worst part about his is that being 6 feet away from my coworkers and customers is almost impossible because my department is a very small section and customers don’t understand what personal space is.

Although I complain about working I am grateful because some people are unemployed and not getting enough to support their families.

This situation is so complicated and I am ready for it to be over.
